Fenton 'C' Start Season With A Win
Fenton 'C' got off to a flying start in their opening Division 3 match against Cheddleton 'D' last night. Wins for Lea and Phil on boards 3 and 4, plus draws on boards 1 and 2 for Mycle and Steve gave us a comfortable 3-1 win. It should probably have been more as both Mycle and Steve were a Pawn up in their respective endgames. However, Mycle and his oponent had opposite colour Bishops and, in the end, there was no way through. Steve actually blundered in his game. With Queen and 5 Pawns against Queen and 4 pawns, he overlooked a back rank Queen check that led to either a draw by repetition or his opponent regaining his Pawn.
