Fenton Rapidplay Championship Update

The Fenton Rapidplay Championship will be held on Sunday 27th August, with the 1st round starting at 10:30.

The time control will be 15 minutes, plus 5 second increments. In the event of a tie, there will be an Armageddon game between the players concerned. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the concept of an Armageddon game, the players will toss for choice of colours and White will have 6 minutes plus 3 second increments on their clock and Black will have 5 minutes plus 3 second increments on their clock. However, White must win, while Black only needs to draw.

If you make an illegal move at any point in your game, you will receive a warning. If you make a second illegal move then you lose the game on the spot.

The competition will be an 8 round Swiss format competion. We will play the first four rounds in the morning, followed by a lunch break at about 12:30, then the four remaining rounds in the afternoon. There is no entry fee and the results will be sent to the ECF for rating. I hope as many of you as possible will be able to play, in what should be a fun day. You can view the current list of entries here - https://ecflms.org.uk/lms/league_player_list/2260. If your name is not on the list, and you want to play, then please let me know as soon as possible. For new players, if you are not aware of what a Swiss format tournament is, please click here for an explanation - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swiss-system_tournament. Put simply, you will always be paired against another player with the same, or nearly the same, number of points as yourself, provided you have not already played them in a previous round.
