'A' Team Beat Division 1 Champions
The 'A' team pulled off a fantastic win against Holmes Chapel to 'A', the Division 1 Champions, last night. Holmes Chapel had 2 Welsh Internationals on their top 2 boards and, overall, outgraded us by 59 points. Petru was back on form on board 2 and got our first win of the night. Kas followed up with a great win on board 3 to put us 2-0 in front. We were pegged back when Gerald was beaten on board 1, followed by Glyn losing on board 4, in a game that he looked to be winning at one point. With the score level at 2-2 all eyes were on Max on board 5. He was a couple of pawns up but under tremendous pressure from a King side attack and with less than a minute on his clock. However after some exchanges in a time scramble, he somehow managed to mate his opponent and win us the match. How he did it only he knows !! We are now joint 2nd in the Division, level with Cheddleton 'A' on match points but slightly behind on game points. Our last match is against Newcastle 'A' on the 1st May. Cheddleton 'A' also have play Newcastle 'A' in their final match this Wednesday 27th March. Depending on the result of this match we still have the opportunity to grab the runners-up spot. This is a tremendous achievement for the Club in our first ever season in the top Division. Click here for last night's match score card.
