The 'D' team have moved up to 3rd place in the Division 4 table, following a 2.5 - 1.5 win against second placed Kidsgrove last night.
We went into an early lead when Derek's opponent on board 1 blundered his Queen. We were then pegged back when Stuart lost on board 3. Ian was a pawn down on board 4, but he had a passed Queen's pawn which tied his opponent's King down and a draw was agreed. All eyes were then on Ernie, who went into an endgame with a Rook and 3 pawns against a Rook and pawn. With his King trapped on the back rank, and the imminent theat of check mate, his opponent duly resigned,
We are still 5 points behind top of the table Crewe 'G', albeit with a match in hand, but our final match of 2023 next week, against Gables 'B', gives us the opportunity to close the gap.
