Mixed Fortunes

There were mixed fortunes for the Club last night, with the 'A' team winning and the 'D' team losing.

The 'A' team got off the mark in Division 1 with a 3-1 win against Alsager 'A'.  There was an early draw for Steve E. on board 4 and the other 3 games all looked to be heading in the same direction. Gerald was next to finish with a draw on board 1 to make the score 1-1. Alex was a pawn up in a difficult endgame, but gradually ground his opponent down to put us 2-1 up. Steve Hill's game on board 3 looked a stone cold draw but a mistake from his opponent let him in and, with an unstoppable Queen Rook Pawn, the win quickly followed. The 'D' team weren't quite so fortunate, going down by 2.5 - 1.5 at Crewe 'G' in Division 4. A draw for Derek on board 1 and a win for Gennady on board 2 was not enough to prevent the loss. Click here for the match score card - https://ecflms.org.uk/lms/node/190012.

Apart from those players involved in the league matches, there was a decent turnout at the Club, including a new Member, Ryan Hepburn, so a very warm welcome to him.

There are no league matches next week, but the following week is very busy, with the 'A', 'B' and 'C' teams all in action.
