The 'B' team took a giant step towards the Division 2 title last night, with a 2-2 draw against our closest challengers, Cheddleton 'D'. Petru missed a winning move in his game on board 1 and had to settle for an early draw. Mycle then put us into the lead with a terrific win on board 4 against an opponent rated 250 points higher than him. Cheddleton drew level when Ernie put up a great fight on board 3 against an opponent rated 120 points higher, before losing a piece and the game. All eyes were then on Kas, who turned up 30 minutes late and so had only 45 minutes on his clock. Despite being a pawn up he had to settle for a draw by repetition in an ending where both sides were going to promote a pawn and Kas only had 45 seconds left on his clock. A win in our final match against bottom of the table Meir on the 9th May, by whatever the margin, will confirm us as Champions.
