Club Membership Continues To Grow

The Club Membership continues to grow, which is fantastic news as many Clubs have been decimated following the Covid pandemic. We are now up to 24 active Members. If we continue on this path, and the League gets back to normal next season, we should be in a position to field more teams in the future.

Busy Night At The Club

It was a very busy night at the Club last night. Apart from the league match taking place there were lots of our new Members in attendance playing social games.

Club Championship

Ernie beat Chris Brooks-Green in the 1st round of the Club Championship last night.

The final games in the 1st round MUST be completed on, or before, next Monday 28th February. Anybody not able to play will be considered to have defaulted. The remaining games are :

Matt Watson v Petru Floresc
Glyn Valentine v Chris Hankey
Mycle Scheuer v Vlad Drezov

Vlad has stepped in to take over Ray's matches, following his withdrawal from the competition.

If anybody would like to play their 2nd round match early, you can view the draw here.

Finally, we welcome another new Member to the Club - Jack Warren.

'B' Team Triumph Again

The 'B' team were given a very hard game by a massively outgraded Kidsgrove team last night. There was almost a 1000 rating point difference between the two teams but you wouldn't have known it from watching the games. The top two boards - Ray and Chris H - were given very tough games by their opponents, before we came out on top right at the end of the evening. Mycle took a draw on board 3, knowing it would win us the match, after Chris B had lost his game on board 4. We are now 6 points clear at the top of the Division, with only 3 matches left to play. You can click here to view last night's match score card.

'B' Team Increase Lead At Top Of Division 2

The 'B' team increased their lead at the top of Division 2 last night with a 3.5 - 0.5 win against 2nd placed Holmes Chapel 'B'. We were slightly outgraded overall, but only by a mere 31 points, so it should have been an evenly contested match.  There were wins for Petru, Chris H. and Dylan on boards 1,2 and 3, and a draw for Chris B. on board 4. This result means that we have completed the double over Holmes Chapel this season. We are now 4 points clear of the chasing pack so the title is ours to throw away - let's hope we don't !! Click here for the match score card. Holmes Chapel have dropped from 2nd to 3rd, on game points difference, after last night's loss.

Next up for the 'B' team is a home match against Kidsgrove on Monday 21st February.

Fenton Facebook Page

Thanks to Mycle we now have a Fenton Chess Club Facebook page, which you can find here. Hopefully this will bring the Club to the attention of a wider (and younger !!) audience.

Club Championship

There were 3 games played in the Club Championship last night, with Mycle beating Matt, Stuart beating Gennady and Steve beating Ernie.

We also had yet another new member turn up. I didn't have time to get his details and all I know is that his name is Jack. Hopefully he'll come again next week and I can find out a bit more.

'A' Team Still Without A Win

The 'A' team slumped to another loss last night, going down 3-1 at Cheddleton 'C'. We lost Glyn to Covid the day before, meaning our team wasn't as strong as we hoped. Chris gave us an early lead on board 2, but blunders by Petru, Steve and Mycle in their respective games on boards 1, 3 and 4 gave the points to Cheddleton. Click here for the match score card. Cheddleton 'C' have now leapfrogged us in the table and we are now rooted in bottom place and looking favourites for the wooden spoon.
