The annual match took place over 10 boards at Meir last night. As ever Meir's hospitality was first-class including a substantial and delicious buffet.
It was particularly striking by how much the Fenton team out-graded Meir this year. On paper this was a very uneven contest and so it turned out to be when the games were played.

Unfortunately as you will see from the LMS page there was a dispute on Board 2 when Peter Windows complained that Petru Floresc was not writing down his moves in timely fashion. At the end of the games Peter was upset enough to suggest this was cheating and that he would claim the game. Far from ignoring Peter's claim, our captain, Steve Emmerton, has referred the matter to an ECF Arbiter. My own view is that, had an arbiter been present and had he agreed with Peter, he would have warned Petru and then awarded a time penalty if there had been a repetition of the infringement of the Laws of Chess.
This was otherwise a most enjoyable evening and once again many thanks to Meir for being excellent hosts
