The 'A' team's Division 2 Championship aspirations took a knock last night when they were beaten 3-2 by Crewe 'A'. We now need to get 3 points from our last 2 matches. Grenville was the first to finish in his match on board 5, where he was totally outplayed by Doug Barnett. Petru then had an unexpected loss on board 1 against Karl Lockett, who he had already beaten twice this season. Max was in a losing position for most of his game against Amy Lovett on board 4, being a piece down for most of the it. He somehow managed to worm his way out of an impossible looking position and actually went into the endgame a piece up. Unfortunately his opponent had a perpetual check and the game ended in a draw. Glyn had a good win against Neville Layhe on board 2, where he was a pawn up in the endgame and his opponent was unable to prevent him from breaking through. With the score at 2.5 - 1.5 in Crewe's favour all eyes were on Kas on board 3, who was a clear piece up. Unfortunately he was in a lot of time trouble and left a piece of his own en prise and the game petered out into a draw. Maybe that will teach him to arrive on time and not start the game 15 minutes down on the clock.
