The 3rd South Potteries Rapidplay Championship was held at the club today and, in spite of a couple of late withdrawals, it was a very successful event. IM Lawrence Cooper was the winner, following an Armageddon game against Jacob Boswell, after they had tied on 5/6. Max and Kasian were joint 5th with 3/5, whilst I languished in joint 10th with 2.5/5. To the amusement of the whole room, I threw away a game against Les Hall while I was 2 Rooks and 2 Pawns up. I got distracted while he was trying to convince Matthew Carr, the Arbiter, that he had a draw by repetition (which he didn't !!) and put one of my Rooks on a square that gave him stalemate !! Stuart in particular found the whole scenario hilarious and was taking the p*** out of me for the rest of the day. You can click here to view the final table. Welcome to the Fenton Chess Club website. We are based at the Longton Snooker & Pool Club, 37 Normacot Road, Longton, ST3 1PL. We welcome players of all abilities, from beginner to experienced player. We meet on Tuesday evenings from 19:30 until 22:30. Unfortunately, we are not able to accommodate young children.
