A strong 'A' team beat Newcastle 'B' by 3.5 - 1.5. There was a fantastic result for Glyn, playing his first game on board 1, with a draw against Alex Richardson. Ray then scored his first league win of the season on board 2 and Rob also got his first win of the season on board 3, to ensure us at least a share of the points. It was then left to Kasian to seal the victory with a win on board 4. My game on board 5 is best forgotten. With an easy draw there for the taking I played a combination that I thought won me a pawn - it actually cost me a piece !! It was all downhill after that. Click here to view the match score card.
The 'D' team had an easy 3.5 - 0.5 win against Cheddleton 'I' to go second in the Division 5 table. There were wins for Derek, Ernie and John on boards 2, 3 and 4, plus a draw for Mike on board 1. The only outstanding match in the 2nd round of the Club Championship was also played last night, with Robert West beating Pete Tideswell. I expect the draw for the 3rd round to be made in the next couple of days.
