Fenton 'B' are still hot on the heels of Division 4 leaders Cheddleton 'F'. An excellent 2.5 - 1.5 win at Meir 'C' last night kept us in joint 2nd place, along with Cheddleton 'G', just a point behind the leaders but with a game in hand. Mike Smith was the first to finish with a draw on Board 3, although this should really have been a win as he was up by a Bishop for a Pawn. Rob then got a great win on Board 1 against an opponent graded 23 points higher than him to put us 1.5 - 0.5 in the lead. Derek always had the advantage over his opponent on Board 4 but stiff resistance kept the game going until late in the evening when Derek finally prevailed to give us a winning 2.5 - 0.5 lead. Geoff was always struggling on Board 2 but somehow managed to keep the game going until he was the last one still playing. All in vain though as he finally succumbed. I think that Rob's win may have put him in the lead for the Performance Of The Year trophy but I'll need to check that.
