A Fine Start To 2013

Fenton 'A' got off to a great start to Division 3 in 2013. Last night we travelled to 2nd placed Kidsgrove and came away with an excellent 2.5 - 1.5 win. Early finishes for Geoff on Board 3 and Stuart on Board 4 produced a win and a draw respectively to send us into the second half of the evening 1.5 - 0.5 in the lead. The games on Boards 1 and 2 were very tense and Rob assured us of at least a point from the match with a draw on Board 1 against an opponent graded 30 points higher than him. My game on Board 2 went right down to the last few minutes and with only 4 minutes left on my clock, and 7 minutes on my opponent's clock, he accepted the draw that gave us the match. This was a great team performance against a side that outgraded us on 3 of the 4 boards. You can click here to view the full match score card. At the time of writing this we have moved up into joint 2nd place in Division 3 but there were two Division 3 matches taking place at Newcastle at the same time, both involving teams at the top of the table, so the position will undoubtedly change when these results are in.
