Revised Grading List Published

The ECF have just published the revised Grading List. This is the August revision of the July 2012 grading list. It is not a new grading list. It is still based on games played up to 30th June 2012. However, it incorporates numerous corrections.

Better Late Than Never

I've finally got round to publishing Geoff's game against Richard Martin of Alsager on the Members Games page. This was the final match of the season for the 'B' team and we were trailing Cheddleton by one point at the top of Division 3. A draw would have given us a share of the title but a win would give it to us outright. All of the other three games were drawn so it was up to Geoff to rise to the occasion and, as we all now know, he didn't let us down.

2012/2013 Fixtures Published

The 2012/2013 league and cup fixtures have now been published. You can view the Fenton fixtures on the Club Calendar from the link on the right hand side of the page. Alternatively you can view them in a normal 'A', 'B' and 'C' team fixture list format, also on the right hand side of the page. From the fixture list format you can now also click on any match to view the full score card. Our opening fixture is a Div 4 match on Monday 24th September between the Fenton 'B' and 'C' teams. Geoff Ties The Knot

Congratulations to Geoff and Norma on their wedding last Friday. Or should that be congratulations to Geoff and commiserations to Norma !? Fenton Sports & Social Club

Some of you may have received letters this morning from a firm of accountants telling you that the Fenton Sports & Social Club is going into liquidation. Can I assure you that this is not a concern for the chess club. Whilst the Social Club is going into liquidation it has been taken over by another company and will be operating under a new name and with a different type of premises license.

As I understand it, under the terms of the present license the club is not allowed to rent out rooms for functions or to advertise. Under the terms of the new license these things will now be permissable and should enable the club to get themselves back on a firm financial footing. I understand that money has already been put into the club to get the utility bills sorted out and the power and heating issues resolved. You may also have noticed that the large room has already been redecorated and I believe that the main bar area and the toilets are next on the list for refurbishment. The Fenton Sports & Social Club name will disappear over the next few weeks and it will be known as the Tramway Community Centre, or something very similar, and George will continue to be the Manager. Let me assure you that nothing changes as far as the chess club is concerned. The Social Club remains open and we will continue to play there. The only change as far as we are concerned is that we will have to change any references to the Fenton Sports & Social Club on our website, and any other sites that mention it, to reflect the new name.

The chess club will continue to be known as Fenton Chess Club.

Fenton Sports & Social Club EGM

Just a reminder that there is an Extraordinary General Meeting of the Sports & Social Club (not the chess club) this coming Wednesday 8th August @ 8:00. Any chess club members who were issued with Social Club Membership Cards at the start of the season are entitled to attend.
