Our winning start to the season came to an end last night with a 2.5 - 1.5 defeat at the hands of Newcastle 'E' in Division 4. Kas withdrew on the day so we had to re-jig the team and bring in Mike on board 2 and then made the decision to leave me out and bring in Glyn on board 1. Unfortunately that particular strategy failed as he could only manage to draw his game. A very lucky win for Chris on board 4, where he was 2 pawns down, had given us an early lead before Newcastle levelled the match with a win on board 3. Glyn then took a draw, in what looked an inferior position, before Mike succumbed to a passed pawn on board 2. The overall score of 2.5 - 1.5 to Newcastle flattered us as it should really have been lost by a greater margin. Click here for the match score card.
